Hello there everyone. yeah yeah yeah yeah I know I haven’t updated this in a very long time. well, something has caused me to finally update my blog. now, I want you to see that I am on an email list for a program for cellphones called Mobilespeak made by Code Factory. Now should other things be discussed on this list? The answer is no. Well, even I fall victum to this from time to time, but I have finally have had enough. when we should be talking about how to use mobilespeak, how to configure it, how to make it work with third party programs, we are instead treated to blind person bitching, just cause they have to get a data plan on there phone. anyway, here you go, I will show you an email I wrote to the list first that got this all started.
you know something, and this is what I just don’t get. if you people that
don’t want to use the web, you don’t want to text, you don’t want windows,
you don’t want to pay for a data plan, it sounds to me you want a phone that
is well, just a phone, that makes, and receives calls, and if this is the
case, you mean to tell me that you can’t get a 19.99 phone, and use it just
like that? you can’t tell wair the send, and end keys are? you can’t tell
wair the numbers are? I hear a lot of complaining, people saying things
like, I don’t want the internet, I don’t want texting, I don’t want all
these fancy features, but because I want my phone to talk, I *had* to go
out, spend 200 on a phone, and then spend the 300 for a screan reader, and
now I am expected to pay 30 dollars a month *just like everyone else* just
for a data plan. well, if you *don’t want all these features* do what I did
before getting my verizon phone. get a very very cheep and basic phone, and
go with something like boost mobile, or something like that. here is the
cold hard facts. if you purchase a smart phone, you will have to put it on
a data plan. weather you are sighted, def, cripple, purple, black, a jew, a
white american, or someone with 20/20 vision. you still pay for this data
plan. saying I don’t use half the features is not a good enough excuse for
it. if you are going to buy this type of phone, hopefully you were smart
enough to reolize what the phone can do, and you can learn how to go on the
internet, learn how to send emails, learn how to get on your favorite
messengers, and all that good stuff.
I think we all have lost sight of what this list is all about. Code Factorys
product *mobilespeak* Yes, even I have gotten way way off topic, and on
most other lists we would have all been told polightly, but firmly that this
is not the list for talking about our cell phone plans, or what they cost,
or how unfair they are. if someone wants to make a list like this? grate, I
am all for it, and would join it just to see what got discussed, but here is
the thing. I joined this list to learn how to use mobilespeak on my cell
phone, maybe learn how to make it work with third party apps, maybe learn
the basics that people have found little tricks for that the manual didn’t
cover, and things of that nature.
I am sorry if this message tweeks some peoples noses, ruffles some peoples
feathers, but quite frankly? I have just gotten tired of seeing my mailbox
fludded with blind persons wining, and complaining how unfair there data
plan is on a list that is for the use, and opporation of mobilespeak, and
its uses. I admit that I have fallen victum to this, but no longer, I am
keeping my mouth closed on this topic, lest I really lose it, and say how I
truely feel. if this email gets me kicked off this list, then so be it, but
I just felt it had to be said.
now with that said, happy texting, happy internet surfing, and just remember
folks we couldn’t do it without programs like mobilespeak, and the wonderful
dectalk voice.
Thank you, and have a good day.
Well, someone took it apon themselv to write yet another email as a reply to the email I wrote. Instead of writing me personally, they decided to write this on the list. so what did I do? well? I wrote a responce, but unlike them, I am going to put it here, ad I am done clauging up an email list with something that is really off topic. I am not going to say I am right, or that I have all the answers, but let me know what you think of this. here goes.
ok, I am going to strip this email apart, line by line, and word for
word, and I am no longer holding back. I am done, and I have had it!
here is the first part of this email, “No, AT&T does not offer a phone
that will do this.” nice way to start off an email. a person has to
wait until the second sentince to see what in the hell you are even
talking about! why can’t you say what you are even talking about in
your first sintence instead of saying a phone don’t do this.
Lets continue this wonderful email. “To use a phone, you need caller
ID, notifications of missed calls and
messages announced. Not just a tactle brick!” Really? you do? this is
news to me! WOW!! You mean to tell me that every single chordless does
this? You mean to tell me that all house phones, and business phones
can do this? Sence when? Every single chordless, and chorded phone
can announce your calls without adaptive technology? I would love to
know wair you purchase your phones, so that I can go there to to get
these grate phones! The harsh reality is this, and I am not sure if
you know it, but here we go, drumb roll please! It is a cold hard fact
that at least 95 percent or more of phones out there will not read your
call history, incoming calls, and your contact list!
Again, I will continue this wonderful email, and just notice how many
times this person says “you need” when yet again, the cold hard fact is
“you want”, but I will dygress for now. This person continues by
saying, “You need to be able to listen to your call histery to be able
to add
numbers to your contacts.” You know something? I have been using cell
phones for quite sometime, and while there have been times I have
needed sighted assistance, learning how a new phone works, eventually,
I can learn the menues well enough to add contacts myself. Not only
that, what ever happened to using your brain to remember phone numbers?
Then you don’t have to rely on your phone to do this for you. I will
admit it does help to be able to do this if your phone talks, but lets
face facts people, we are a minority, and making things talk like this
is a bit costly. why are they going to put speach in a phone when most
people wouldn’t even use it. lets remember that this would drive up
the cost of the phones as well.
So lets see what else this person has to say. “Also, texting is a
major dumb phone feature, if it is tactle enough
and you memorized the menus you may be able to send a text, but good
luck reading the text with your blind friendly tactle nonspeaking
phone.” You know something? what is the defanition of a phone?
something for making and receiving calls. texting is something extra.
a lugsury if you will. you pay extra for this service. so if you
can’t use it, then don’t pay for it. problem solved!
This is probibly the best part of the whole email for me that is. “So,
just a device that you can feel the keys and the send and end keys
just isn’t quite going to cut it.” Again, I must state here yet again,
what is a phone? a device for the purpose of making and receiving
calls. texting, email, and internet aside, this is what a phone is,
and what it does. Again, I will also state here that at least 95
percent of phones out there are just this, a phone, you can feel the
buttons, but they are not accessable for the menus, and features of sed
phone. Yet we all have been using phones for how many years? I know
myself, I have been using phones sence I was around nine or so? back
when you had to use rodery phones, not even push button phones. So
what you said, don’t cut the mustard here. you can make and receive
calls with as you called it a tactle brick. Now, if you want to use
the extra services like caller ID, text messaging, and the internet,
then you are going to have to find a way to make it accessable, but
again, these are extras, and lugsuries.
Now here is something that makes sence, but yet again, I can even tare
this line apart as well, here goes. “It may work for what you need
done, but some of us have work phones,
and need everything spoken.” Well, I can understand people that have
work phones, and need things spoken, however, lets consider a few
things here. I have seen time warner persons, and not once to they
text, they get phone calls, and they answer them, also there are times
they make calls, back to the office, or a technical department. No
wair in this do they text. and some of the time, they don’t even use
the contact list in there phone, they have the numbers memorized,
because they call them so much, it is just quicker to dial the numbers
than to scrowl threw a list, and call a person that way. Here is the
bottom line here. Now watch closely everyone. If your job requires
your phone to “read everything” then you need to either put out the
money to make your phone do this, or if it is a work phone that was
given to you by your company, why not get either them to purchase the
software for the phone, or get an organization like services for the
blind to get it for you. That is what they are there for. Before you
sit here and tell me, “they can’t,” or “they won’t”, or something like
that, I will say this much. Yes I know how hard it is to get them to
get things for us, but it is what we have to go threw. again, these
are the cold hard facts. You do what you have to to make the job work
for you.
OK. Now I have taken a name out of this next line, but other than that,
it is word for word, and I just love this one. “Also AT&T do not have
the ENVe III, or any simular device. So you can’t say
“If you don’t use a smartphone for what its made for, buy a dumb
phone like the LG ENV III”. That is Verizon, not AT&T.” You know
something? I hear you complaining constently about AT&T don’t have
this, AT&T don’t have that, Or you say something like that is Verizon
and not AT&T. you know something? I didn’t think I would have to say
this to an adult, but maybe this consept alloods you, but here you go.
Now listen very very carefully here. I will even say it slow enough so
that you can grasp the consept. Here goes.
IF, YOU, DO, NOT, LIKE, A, CERTAIN, PROVIDER, THEN, GO, TO, SOMEONE,
ELSE!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe people when they complain about one company, but yet
they went with them in the first place. if you knew that Verizon had
phones that at least partially talk, then you should have went with
Verizon shouldn’t you have?
In closing I would like to say this much. Yes there have been times I
would have liked a phone that could have done more, but I couldn’t
afford it, or I couldn’t justify the cost. However, when I had the
money to get something that I wanted, I did the research fefore forking
out that kind of money. If you people don’t like the fact that you
have to get a smart phone just to use mobile speak, and get all
features talking? then it sounds to me like you need to go with
Verizonn, or another carrier that you know has phones that are somewhat
accessable. Now, if you want to use mobile speak, and you feel you
can’t live with out it, then here you go, you have to get a smart
phone. Now if you have to get a smart phone, why not learn to use
everything that phone has to offer. instead of bitching and complaining
that you have to pay 30 for a data plan, put it to its good use! get
your moneys werth! quit clauging up a list with nothing but bitching
when you know that this list will get you know wair with your bitching.
This list is for *mobile speak* and not *oh wowe is me, I have to pay
30 for a data plan*
Now if you blind persons want to take me on in an aria wair you can say
what ever you like? lets take it to my personal radio station. lets
put it all on the air, or are you too chicken shit to do this. Are you
going to bitch, piss, and moan on an email list, or would you like to
try to defend yourself on a show that has the potentual for listeners.
the choice is yours. but for god sake! get it off a list that is for a
particular program, and how to use it.
if you want to tell me what you think, you can email me at jamminjerry@jjhof.com. and I will post your thoughts on here.
